National Missing Persons Awareness Day, Friday, May 24th

Emily Valentino and the Newton FIRST Varsity Robotics Team ask all students and their families to join us in making a difference for the missing and their families!

Between Monday, May 6th and Friday, May 24th, Newton schools will participate in a unique project for the missing. In honor of National Missing Children’s Day on May 25th, we are asking students to donate a new Teddy Bear to be given to one of our three local law enforcement agencies for their "ride along" programs. Officers from the Sussex County Sheriffs Department, Newton Police Department, and Andover Police Department will be on hand to accept these bears at the end of the drive.

The Teddy Bear is the symbol used nationally for the missing. Teddy Bears donated to this cause “ride along” with the officers in their patrol cars. When a child is lost or experiences any sort of traumatic occurrence and law enforcement is called in to help with the situation, the child is given a Teddy Bear to help ease their stress and let them know someone cares.

Emily Valentino, a fifth grade student was inspired to do something for those who suffer the loss of a missing person after her Aunt Allison went missing in 2006 from Wilmington, NC. It was a CUE (Community United Effort) Center for Missing Persons who took the lead in the case and helped bring her aunt home nearly two years later. Now Emily wishes to raise awareness and help other families on this journey. With 800,000 persons missing annually and 2,000 children per day missing in the United States alone, missing persons has become a silent crisis in our country.

Please help to make this event a success by donating a bear or giving a donation. All monies raised will go directly to CUE Center to aid in the search for the missing and to help families of the missing get the answers and resolution they seek for their missing loved one! Donations by check should be made payable to: CUE Center for Missing Persons, and mailed to Lisa Valentino at 40 Hunts School Road, Newton NJ, 07860. For more information on CUE Center see their website; www.ncmissingpersons.org

Boxes for the Teddy Bears will be in the main foyer of the Halsted, Merriam, Newton High School, Green Hills, and Andover schools.

Thank you for your support!

“Every missing person is somebody’s child.”
